A Study on the Reliability and Validity of the Korean Version of Indiana Job Satisfaction Scale for Chronic Mentally Ill Patients

Abstract
Objectives£ºThe Indiana Job Satisfaction Scale(IJSS) is a brief job satisfaction questionnaire designed for people with severe mental illness. The purpose of this study is to validate the korean version of IJSS as well as to examine the relationship between job satisfaction and job tenure.

Methods£ºThe subjects who were 158 members in community mental health center around Seoul and Kyeonggi province rated the Korean version of IJSS. Each case managers or supervisors rated Work Behavior Inventory to evaluate objectively the work skills of chronic psychiatric patients.

Results£ºThe internal consistency coefficients(Cronbach alpha) of each subscale range from ¥á=.43 to ¥á=.68, and the Cronbach alpha of the total scale is ¥á=.84. This scale has relations with outcome of rehabilitation such as job tenure and degree of independency of job. Especially the Pay subscale is high relations with the job independency and the duration of job maintenance. Also the subjective job satisfaction positively correlates with the WBI. This results show that the criterion related validation of this scale is high.

Conclusion£ºThis scale is highly reliable and valid measure to assess job satisfaction of chronic mentally illness patients. And overall the findings support the utility of job satisfaction as a tool in vocational rehabilitation.
